Another New Music Friday arrives with a 15-track selection built around fresh African sounds, strong collaborations and records that deserve more than a passing listen. Friday Frequency #015 moves between Afrobeats, Afro-fusion, amapiano and contemporary African sounds, bringing together established voices, rising artists and records with genuine replay value.
Leading this week’s selection is the collaboration between Blaqbonez and Asake, whose IKEBE 3000 sets the pace with the kind of energetic, unmistakable Nigerian sound that makes an immediate impression. From there, the playlist moves through different shades of African music without losing its central identity.
The Sound of New Music Friday
Mr Eazi and MOLIY follow with Comfort, a smooth collaboration that balances melodic songwriting with an easy Afrobeats groove. DJ Tunez and Terry Apala bring something distinctly different with Apala Groove, drawing from the Apala tradition while presenting it through a contemporary production lens.
Lojay’s Money Lingo and Tml Vibez’s Gentleman continue the Nigerian run, while Lalakula from Txmmyily, Famous Pluto and Zaylevelten adds another energetic dimension to the playlist.
One of the week’s more distinctive selections comes from Jembaa Groove, Fatoumata Diawara and The Cavemen. on Waka. The collaboration brings together different musical sensibilities and reinforces the breadth of contemporary African music without stepping outside the playlist’s core identity.
DopeNation’s Me Sisi keeps the momentum moving, followed by Warrior Sound, a cross-border collaboration between Lyrical Joe and Khaligraph Jones that connects two important voices from the African hip-hop scene.
More From This Week’s Frequency
The playlist continues with Maandy’s Yamii and Joefes’ Haraka, giving the Kenyan contingent a strong presence while maintaining the pace established earlier in the selection.
On the South African side, Sykes, Dlala Thukzin, Kabza De Small, Mthunzi and Jnr SA deliver Yebo Nkosi, while Pushkin RSA, Musa Keys, Kaotic Kayy, Priddy Man-Kay, Springle and Philharmonic bring 21 Questions (Toxic Love) into the mix.
The final stretch returns to Nigeria with Magixx’s Be The One before D£JAVU and T.I BLAZE close the playlist with Akube.
