Phizzle – HOLD ON + DREAMER

Phizzle [real name – Fela Yomi-Layinka] is a rapper and media entrepreneur, who grew up with very little access to foreign pop music, so he listened predominantly to the likes of Alex O, Alex Zitto, Daniel Wilson, Blackky etc. He was and still is a big fan of Shina Peters and his Afro-Juju genre. It wasn’t until listening to the likes of Maintain, Trybesmen, ModeNine and Eedris Abdulkareem during the birth of Nigerian Hip-Hop in the late ‘90s that he got his motivation to become rapper. Throughout his 1st degree at Babcock University, he built up this skill and quickly became popular on campus with his eclectic demeanor, unpredictable flow and unconventional delivery style, in addition to his unique voice.

He then went on to the UK for his 2nd degree in 2007 and currently holds an M.Sc in Information Systems Management from Brunel University, London. It was during this period he recorded and released his 1st official single titled “Jaiye Jaiye” on a beat produced by American producers, Dukes of DaVille. This single went on to be quite popular online with 6000 downloads in it’s 1st 3-weeks online back in 2009. It also got good radio airplay on Nigerian radio stations like RayPower FM, Eko FM etc courtesy DJs Spin’all and Ex-L, amongst others. “Jaiye Jaiye” went on to be the lead single off his 1st official mix-tape, “The Ibadan/Lagos/London” mix-tape which was released on the his birthday in 2010.

Phizzle likes to approach his music as an art. He seeks to share his moods, emotions, experiences and aspirations with his listeners/audience. He delivers with true passion and creative freedom. This can be felt when listening to his most recent project, an 11 track EP titled “City To City: The Adventures Of WaterBoi P“, which was released on February 9, 2012, 2 years after the release of the “I/L/L” mix-tape. This EP led to his most recent single titled “Everyday Girl Pt. 2“, as produced by E-Kelly. A video for this single was produced and go major airplay of various TV stations including SoundCity TV.

A slick visual artiste with a keen interest in logo designing, his process of music creation also extends his graphic arts as he designs a bulk of his own promotional artwork. He also takes a cue from his dad when it comes to video production as well, and you can expect some out-of-the-ordinary videos from him. With his love for music, and his bulk of talent, Phizzle is set to raise the bar in the Nigerian music industry not only by bringing good music, but also by creating new standards and possibilities for Nigerian artistes. An alumnus of the Enterprise Development Centre, Pan-African University, he is the Principal Consultant/Creative Director of EyeCandy Media Limited, a media concepts/brand consultancy company that deals in entertainment and lifestyle brands development.
