It won’t be right if we make an analysis of events within the Nigeria Music Factory without giving kudos to music producers otherwise known as sound designers that made the year worthwhile. Without them, not all songs will be regarded as music without their impression and they must be duly appreciated especially in a music factory where most times, the beat does the magic. Thumbs up to all producers out there including those who did not make this list as there is a long list of producers who made the year 2012 fun-filled, but for the purpose of the this epistle, only 12 will be fingered.

FLIPTYCE, whose real name is Folorunsho Busayo Phillips has been in the game for so long, working with acts such as Faze, LKT and May D; his big break came when he produced the “Chop My Money” track for P-Square on which Akon of Konvict Music featured on the remix. This song was a monster hit both home and abroad. Also this year, he was a major producer on Faze‘s “Refazed” album with tracks as “Nkem” and “In The Mood” credited to him.

LEGENDURY BEATZ; 2 young men who have also been at the back stage for a while. He struck to limelight this year with the “Azonto Freestyle” which he did for Wizkid. Little did we know that he had more in store till he did “2mussh” for Reminisce. He is also credited with the “Baddest Boy” hit off the E.M.E album on which he played major roles alongside MasterKraft in making the album a success.

Sunday MASTERKRAFT Nweke is indeed a master at his craft. He is the principal producers of 2 quality albums this year. He played primary roles on Capital F.E.M.I‘s “Year Of R’n’B” album and also the “Empire State Of Mind” album by the E.M.E crew. He is also the hit-maker behind Sheyman‘s “Celebrate” and has worked with almost all prominent acts within the industry.

D’TUNES; Adesoya Doyinsola is the hit-maker behind the 2012 monster hit, “Kukere” by Iyanya. Although worked with several acts in the past, this song was indeed his break. The production of Iyanya‘s follow up single, “Ur Waist” which featured Emma Nyra deserves kudos too as it rocked clubs and parties. Thumbs up bro.

YOUNG D is practically the only producer on Timaya‘s “Upgrade” album. The album is credited with tracks such as “Bum Bum”, “Sexy Ladies” and “Malonogede”, which featured Terry G. This is another sound designer who made a good mark in 2012. He’s also the producer behind Oritsefemi‘s “Better Remix” classic which featured Vector. Young D is indeed good as a lot of regulars and up-comings now crave for his beats.

SPELLZ is one dude that has never ceased to amaze everyone with his every track. His sequence, combination and tempo is classical. He has several hits this year as he is the producer of several songs. He is prominent on 2face Idibia‘s “Away And Beyond” album with tracks such as “Keep On Moving”, and others. He recently produced “Thank You” for Wizkid, “Folarin” for Tiwa Savage, “Good Good Loving” for Banky W, and several others. This dude indeed casts spells on his beats which make everyone LISTEN.

Kelvin LAYLOW Bojeghre whom a lot was not heard from this year is a producer to behold. The reason why he was not prominent on the local scene was due to his international endorsements such as the one with Capcom games as the official producer of the game’s soundtracks and most recently is his endorsement as the new face/ambassador of Skrohl in Nigeria and Africa. Nonetheleess, Laylow still blessed us with “What It Do” featuring Jesse Jagz, Sossick, Buckwylla, Phyno, Yung6ix, Seriki, Olamide, Phenom and Liu T. Also to his credit, is the “Meet Me At The Top” single on which he featured Iceberg Slim, Cartiair, ModeNine, Skales, Vector, Dagrin, Terry tha Rapman, Gino, Liu T and Ludu. This song is currently nominated as best mainstream hip-hop in the forthcoming Nigeria Music Video Award.

Although many might argue that SHIZZI was brought into the big picture by DavidO‘s “O.B.O” album, I will be pleased to let you know that this man has been behind the scene for so long and also produced a version of Wande Coal‘s “Go Low” which was titled “Angel In This World”. He also has to his credit, the “As E Dey Hot” track which he produced for Bigiano. We look forward to him in 2013.

Jeremiah J-SLEEK Shelika is a big wig in the Nigerian music factory. He has in the past produced veterans such as 2face Idibia and Sound Sultan. J Sleeky Sleeky as fondly called by 2baba is a hit maker. 2012 was indeed another good year for him as he was again conspicuous on 2baba‘s latest LP. He produced the famous “Private Trips” for Wande Coal, “Mary Jane” for DavidO and “Omotena” for Solid Star. He also got signed by D’banj on to D’banj Records to replace Don Jazzy after the production of “Oyato”, which although did not hit the height of any song previously produced by the Don for the Koko master.

PHEELZ, a young dude brought to the limelight by Olamide‘s “First Of All”. He is one of the most prominent producers on Olamide‘s “YBNL” album and he also recently was featured on Olamide’s “Arabambi [Friends With Benefit]” track. Pheelz is indeed a producer, thank you sir.

There is indeed only one SARZ. This man has indeed stood the test of time. Striking limelight in the days of Dagrin and ever since, been a force to reckon with. Sarz had a good year in 2012 being signed as the official producer of eLDee‘s Trybe 2.0 Records. He made monster hits in 2012 to include “Badman” and “Beat Of Life [Samba]” for superstar, Wizkid. He also produced “Get Low”, off Capital F.E.M.I‘s album, and as well most tracks on eLDee‘s “Undeniable” album; not forgetting Reminisce‘s “Kako Bii Chicken“. There’s indeed only one SARZ.

COBHAMS Emmanuel Asuquo if not the biggest music producer is one of the biggest to have ever existed in the Nigeria music factory. He is one of the few veterans left in the game. Although gone lowkey, there’s hardly any album that misses his midas touch. Production, mixing or mastering, this man is top notch. “Asa” is one act who would be forever grateful to this genius and so also is the “Yes/No” track for Banky W, not forgetting “Distance” which is a track from Lawale featuring Demmy. Show me that track that doesn’t have his midas touch, you must definitely be showing me a Nollywood movie.
